DESCRIPTION

cinnamon-settings is the command-line interface to the graphical settings application in the Cinnamon desktop environment. Cinnamon, a fork of GNOME Shell developed by the Linux Mint team since 2011, provides a traditional desktop experience with panels, applets, menus, and a start button.

This tool launches the main System Settings window when run without arguments or opens specific configuration panels when a module name is provided. Users can customize desktop appearance (themes, icons, fonts), window behavior, hardware settings (display, sound, power), notifications, user accounts, privacy options, and extensions like applets or desklets.

It relies on the Cinnamon settings daemon for persisting changes across sessions. Ideal for quick access via keyboard shortcuts, scripts, or menus, it offers an intuitive GUI alternative to editing config files directly.

CAVEATS

Requires active Cinnamon session; non-functional in other desktops.
